A Rewarding Experience in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Experience ofย Maria Pocinho from Portugal
My name is Maria Pocinho and Iโm from Portugal. I came to Sri Lanka for four weeks and am working closely with The Green Lion projects. During my first week here I decided to join the orientation activities with the lovely guide Ayeesha. I have visited the Ranawana temple, the spice gardens, the tea factory, a Hindu temple as well as the temple of tooth, all in Kandy.
I have also attended a cooking and Buddhism lesson, had a typical Sri Lankan massage, and developed some batik skills. This was an amazing week to kick off my volunteering experience in Sri Lanka as I was able to learn about their culture, costumes and religion, as well as to meet other volunteers from all over the world!
On the weekend, we decided to organize a trip by ourselves to Sigiriya to climb the famous Lionโs Rock to see the sunset. I can tell that it was one of the most amazing views Iโve seen in my life and that it is definitely worth the tiring climb.
On Sunday we also went on a safari to watch the elephants on their natural habitat.
After a full week of travelling, I finally arrived in Dambulla, where I would stay for the week to join the construction and teaching programs. We have been helping out on the building of a school for the poor children of Dambulla in the morning. In the afternoon, we provide an English lesson for the village kids. It has been such a rewarding experience!
